Eli Lilly & Co, Yahoo!, and Alltel have the highest srtIndex scores to top the list of companies with positive news while Electronic Arts and International Business Machines lead the list of companies with negative news reports. salesforce.com has popped up with a high positive news sraIndex score. MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Overseas trading is rather grim, following on the heels of a pullback in the U.S. yesterday. Of the 15 markets that we follow, only five are in positive territory this morning, with a cumulative average return of a 0.027-percent loss. Asia is proving to be one of the few bright spots, as the Nikkei rebounded to finish with a 1.5-percent gain and the Hang Seng closing up 0.2 percent. However, trading in Europe is currently stuck in the red. The London FTSE 100 has shed 0.3 percent while both the German DAX and the French CAC 40 are down 0.4 percent. The U.S. Dollar Index tumbled 0.69 percent yesterday as the index continues to consolidate into support at its ascending 10-week moving average. The index has not closed a week below this intermediate-term trendline since mid-September. In early trading this morning, the dollar has begun to rebound as it currently flat to higher against all the currencies that we tracks. The January crude futures contract jumped 2.45 percent on Thursday, reclaiming the 60 level. Energy prices are also on the rise this morning, with crude oil futures tacking on 52 cents to hit $61.18 per barrel. Natural gas is also on the rise, gaining roughly 30 cents this morning to tag $15.295 per million BTU. Cold weather throughout the United States has begun to raise fresh concerns over energy supplies. FUTURESWATCH ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------- The equity futures are a bit mixed this morning as the S&P futures are trading about 250 higher as opposed to the NASDAQ futures, which are still lagging trading only 50 higher. Much of the pressure over the past few days has come as a result of higher natural gas and crude oil prices caused by the early cold wave in the Midwest. There will be a report on Michigan sentiment between 8:45-9:00 this morning, which could set the trend for the rest of the day. There will also be a report on wholesale inventory and sales at 9:00 that may have some impact on the markets as well. Watch for the S&P futures to regain some upside momentum as long as that market can maintain the 126400 level and the NASDAQ futures can work their way back above the 170900 level. PUT/CALL ALERT ---------------------------------------------------- --------------------------- Equity option activity on the CBOE saw 462,044 put contracts traded compared to 722,044 call contracts on Thursday. The resultant single-session put/call ratio jumped to 0.641, while the 21-day moving average was unchanged at 0.585.
