NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS----------------------------------------- So far this morning, Goldman Sachs, Ford Motor Co., and E-Trade Financial Corp. lead the list of companies with positive news, while Rambus Inc., Actuant Corp., and M&T Bank lead the list of companies with negative news. Sirius XM Radio, UPS, and ConocoPhillips were upgraded this morning, while Duke Energy, Marvell Technology Group, and Bridgepoint Education were downgraded. MARKET OVERVIEW--------------------------------------------------- Overseas trading is mixed this morning, as five of the 10 foreign indices that we track are in positive territory. The cumulative average return on the collective stands at a loss of 0.71%. Trading in Asia closed broadly lower Tuesday, with the major indexes posting their biggest one-day losses in weeks on renewed concerns that stocks have rallied too far too fast amid uncertainty about the global economic recovery. Across the pond in Europe, stocks hovered near breakeven, with investors buying drugmakers but selling banks as they wait for signs that the outlook for economic growth has improved. Investors focused on shares of companies less sensitive to trends in economic growth. Crude futures took a tumble yesterday, with commodities traders taking their cues from the World Bank's downwardly revised forecast for global economic growth. Strength in the U.S. dollar also weighed heavily on oil prices, as the greenback gained ground versus the euro. These bearish catalysts effectively offset the rising supply threat posed by Nigerian militants, who have now taken credit for attacks on three oil installations owned by Royal Dutch Shell (RDS). By the close, crude oil for July delivery shed $2.62, or 3.8%, to finish at $66.93 per barrel. PUT/CALL RATIO --------------------------------------------------- Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) saw 1,423,971 call contracts traded on Monday, compared to 1,025,648 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio arrived at 0.72, while the 21-day moving average held at 0.67. SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS -------------------------------------- The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood of $88.25 and resistance around $92.70. For the Nasdaq 100 (QQQQ), support is near $33.20 and resistance is around $36.35.
