NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far this morning, Rite Aid Corp., Monsanto Company, and Oracle
Corp. lead the list of companies with positive news, while Jabil
Circuit, Inc., PetroQuest Energy, and Darden Restaurants lead the
list of companies with negative news. Freeport-McMoRan, Deutsche
Bank, and Black & Decker were upgraded this morning, while Valero
Energy, Boeing, and MEMC Electronic were downgraded.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is in fine shape this morning, as all 10 of the
foreign indices that we track are in positive territory. The
cumulative average return on the collective stands at a gain of
0.92%. In Asian trading, investors remained cautious on Wednesday,
with anxiety growing ahead of a policy statement from the U.S.
Federal Open Market Committee later today. Across the pond in
Europe, stocks have edged higher, with sentiment improving towards
metal stocks and banks as U.S. rate hike worries appeared to
recede. Meanwhile, an outlook from the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development offered some upwardly revised forecasts
for the first time in two years.
Crude futures bounced back on Tuesday, boosted by softness in the
U.S. dollar and expectations for a drawdown in crude supplies.
Specifically, analysts are expecting the Energy Information
Administration (EIA) to report a loss of one million barrels in its
weekly report, which is due out tomorrow morning.
PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE)
saw 1,255,240 call contracts traded on Tuesday, compared to 964,372
put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio arrived
at 0.77, while the 21-day moving average rose to 0.68.
SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS --------------------------------------
The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood
of $88.30 and resistance around $92.70. For the Nasdaq 100 (QQQQ),
support is near $33.45 and resistance is around $36.35.
