NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far this morning, Conagra Foods, Lennar Corp., and Hertz Global
Holdings lead the list of companies with positive news, while NIKE,
Inc., Paychex, Inc., and Novellus Systems lead the list of
companies with negative news. SLM Corp., Legg Mason, and Ingersoll-
Rand were upgraded this morning, while First Solar, Edison
International, and Supervalu were downgraded.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is mixed this morning, as only four of the 10
foreign indices that we track are in positive territory. The
cumulative average return on the collective stands at a gain of
0.20%. Trading in Asia jumped on Thursday, with strong gains for
technology shares boosting Tokyo and Seoul and an advance for
property stocks underpinning Hong Kong. Across the pond in Europe,
stocks pared strong gains made in the previous session as investors
reacted to the U.S. rate decision. Among companies in the
spotlight, BP shares fell 1.1% after the oil major said that
Ericsson's CEO, Carl-Henric Svanberg, will become its new chairman,
succeeding Peter Sutherland. Hans Vestberg, Ericsson's 44-year-old
executive vice president and chief financial officer, will be
Ericsson's new CEO. Ericsson shares were down 0.9% in Stockholm.
Crude futures finished the session slightly lower on Wednesday,
thanks to a stronger dollar and a rise in domestic inventories.
More specifically, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said
that gasoline inventories rose by 3.9 million barrels last week,
far surpassing analysts? forecasts. In addition, the EIA reported
that crude demand in the U.S. fell by 6.6% in the four weeks ended
June 19, compared to year-ago levels.
PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE)
saw 1,208,481 call contracts traded on Wednesday, compared to
748,379 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio
arrived at 0.62, while the 21-day moving average held at 0.68.
SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS --------------------------------------
The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood
of $89.10 and resistance around $92.70. For the Nasdaq 100 (QQQQ),
support is near $35.00 and resistance is around $36.05.
