NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS----------------------------------------- So far this morning, Cephalon (CEPH), TiVo (TIVO) and Humana (HUM) lead the list of companies with positive news, while Applied Materials (AMAT), Whole Foods (WFMI) and Sunpower (SPWRA) lead the list of companies with negative news. Netflix (NFLX), Alcoa (AA) and Omnova Solutions (OMN) were upgraded this morning, while Electronic Arts (ERTS), Host Hotels (HST) and V.F. Corp (VFC) were downgraded. MARKET OVERVIEW--------------------------------------------------- Stocks in Asia finished mostly higher on Monday, as traders celebrated news of Osama bin Laden's death. The reports pushed the Japanese yen lower against its U.S. counterpart, which helped to lift exporters like Sony Corp., Canon Inc., and Advantest Corp. By the close, Japan's Nikkei index added nearly 1.6%, marking its first finish north of 10,000 since March 14. Markets in Hong Kong and China, meanwhile, were closed for holiday. European markets were also trading north of breakeven, with news of the Al Qaeda leader's death bolstering global sentiment. At last check, the German DAX has added 0.8%, while France's CAC 40 has tacked on nearly 0.3%. Markets in London, however, are closed for holiday. The greenback has reversed early gains this morning, with the U.S. dollar index down almost 0.1%. Elsewhere, crude futures have pulled back from 31-month-high territory, thanks to news of Osama bin Laden's death. At last check, the June-dated contract has surrendered 2% to hover south of $112 per barrel. Meanwhile, gold futures have continued their trek into record-high territory. In pre-market action, the front-month contract is trading fractionally higher at $1,556.90 an ounce. PUT/CALL RATIO --------------------------------------------------- Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) saw 1,171,354 call contracts traded on Friday, compared to 674,867 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio docked at 0.58, while the 21-day moving average remained at 0.59. SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS -------------------------------------- The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood of $132.80 and resistance above $136.60. For the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ), support is around $56.10 and resistance is near $59.30.
