MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is looking up this morning, as 7 of the 11 foreign
indices that we track are in positive territory. The cumulative
average return on he collective stands at a loss of 0.27%, however,
as China's Shanghai Composite plunged more than 4% and the Hang
Seng fell more than 2% in Wednesday's trading. Investors are
concerned that China's central bank will lift interest rates next
week following the release of April consumer price data.
Elsewhere, commodities stocks held up nicely, with BHP Billiton and
Inpex Holdings posting gains on strong crude-oil and metals prices.
In Japan, stocks rallied 0.9% at midday in their first day of
trading after a 4-day holiday, but slipped in afternoon trading.
Financials such as Mizuho Financial Group helped buoy the region.

Across the pond in Europe, regional indices gained ground, as
investors keyed off a slew of positive earnings from leading
companies including Lafarge and British American Tobacco.

Crude futures set a new record intraday high and a new record
closing high yesterday, extending a bull run in black gold that has
been nothing less than stomach-churning for U.S. consumers. The
usual suspects can take the credit for today's new peak in crude
prices. June-dated crude oil surged as high as $122.73 per barrel
in intraday activity before settling at $121.84, a gain of $1.87
for the session.

PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the CBOE saw 1,693,670 call contracts
traded on Tuesday, compared to 970,855 put contracts. The
resultant single-session put/call ratio sank to 0.57, while the 21-
day moving average inched lower to 0.73.
