NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far today, Celgene Corp., CIT Group, and Foundry Networks, Inc.
lead the list of companies with the most news stories while Royal
Bank of Canada and AirTran Holdings, Inc. are showing a spike in
news. General Electric, CV Therapeutics, and News Corp. have the
highest srtIndex scores to top the list of companies with positive
news while Frontier Airlines Inc. and Advanced Micro Devices lead
the list of companies with negative news reports. Microsoft has
popped up with a high positive news sraIndex score.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is mixed this morning, with six of nine reporting
Asian/Pacific markets up, but all nine reporting European markets
are down. The Japan Nikkei is up 2.92%, while the Philippines PSE
Composite is down 0.48%, the British FTSE 100 is down 0.86%, and
the Madrid General is down 1.16%.
Oil and other energy futures are essentially flat so far, with
front month crude advancing by merely 6 cents. Gasoline and natural
gas are just slightly lower. In metals, the story is the same. Gold
is up a few cents, silver is up a little, and copper shows up as
the big mover, up almost 1%.
PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the CBOE saw 959,677 call contracts
traded on Wednesday, compared to 857,492 put contracts. The
resultant single-session put/call ratio slipped to 0.89, while the
21-day moving average held at 0.86.
