NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far this morning, TiVo (TIVO), Coldwater Creek (CWTR), and
InterMune (ITMN) lead the list of companies with positive news,
while Marvell Technology Group (MRVL), Solarfun Power Holdings
(SOLF), and Dynamic Materials (BOOM) lead the list of companies
with negative news. Constellation Energy (CEG), DISH Network
(DISH), and Suntech Power (STP) were upgraded this morning, while
Tyson Foods (TSN), Yamana Gold (AUY), and Southern Co. (SO)
received downgrades.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is headed into the weekend in style, as all 10
foreign indexes that we track are in positive territory. The
cumulative average return on the collective stands at a gain of
0.77%. In Asian trading, regional indexes closed mostly higher,
with Japanese stocks pacing gains due to hopes that the Bank of
Japan would ease its monetary policy. Meanwhile, Chinese shares in
Shanghai and Hong Kong gained strength after Premier Wen Jiabao
said the government will maintain its "moderately" loose policies
and set an 8% economic growth target for this year. Turning to
Europe, stocks advanced ahead of key U.S. employment data.
The U.S. dollar and commodities are trading in tight ranges this
morning, as traders play the waiting game ahead of U.S. employment
data. At last check, the U.S. Dollar Index was off 0.01% at 80.56,
while crude futures were up 0.54% at $80.64 per barrel. Finally,
gold is moderately higher in London, with futures rising $2.30 to
trade at $1,135.40 an ounce.
PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE)
saw 1,172,323 call contracts traded on Thursday, compared to
768,691 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio
arrived at 0.66, while the 21-day moving average rose to 0.68.
SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS --------------------------------------
The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood
of $112.00 and resistance around $112.95. For the Nasdaq 100
(QQQQ), support is near $43.80 and resistance is around $46.65.
