NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far today, Bear Stearns, AES Corp., and Lehman Brothers lead the
list of companies with the most news stories while GLG Partners,
Inc. and Axcelis Technologies are showing a spike in news. Hecla
Mining Company, J.P.Morgan Chase & Co., and Mittal Steel Company
have the highest srtIndex scores to top the list of companies with
positive news while PMI Group and Rite Aid lead the list of
companies with negative news reports. Agnico-Eagle Mines has popped
up with a high positive news sraIndex score.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is not too hot right now, as investors worldwide
try to digest the financial situation. All nine reporting
Asian/Pacific markets are down and all nine reporting European
markets are down. The India BSE 30 is down 6.03%, the China
Shanghai Composite is down 3.60%, the Austria ATX is down 4.08%,
and the British FTSE 100 is down 2.50%.
Crude oil futures probably won't be the focus of today's market
action, but they are up by a few cents currently, still holding
steady above $110. Heating oil, natural gas, and gasoline are all
up slightly as well. In metals, gold it rushing to new highs at
$1017 up $17 or 1.7%. Silver is also higher, but copper is off by
more than 2%.
