NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far this morning, Edison International (EIX), DISH Network
(DISH), and Millipore (MIL) lead the list of companies with
positive news, while Shanda Games (GAME), Abercrombie & Fitch
(ANF), and American Water Works (AWK) lead the list of companies
with negative news. Whole Foods (WFMI), Norfolk Southern (NSC), and
Rowan Cos. (RDC) were upgraded this morning, while TASER (TASR),

MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is off to a strong start to the week, as eight of
the 10 foreign indexes that we track are in positive territory.
The cumulative average return on the collective stands at a gain of
0.71%. In Asia, regional indexes ended higher, with mining shares
leading the way due to expectations that copper prices will tick
higher following a massive earthquake in Chile, the world's biggest
copper producer. Elsewhere, Toyota Motor slipped 1.1% after news
that a U.S. congressional panel has found evidence the company
routinely withheld records it should have turned over in court.
Turning to Europe, stocks rose, with miners rising after copper
supplies were disrupted by an earthquake in Chile, and amid mergers
in the drugs and insurance sectors.
Focus has fallen on the U.S. dollar once again this morning. The
greenback is headed higher versus most of its major foreign
competitors, with the U.S. Dollar index up 0.8% at 81.01 in early
activity this morning. Crude futures have shrugged off the higher
dollar, however, rising 36 cents to $80.02 per barrel in electronic
trading. Meanwhile, gold has not been so lucky. At last check,
gold futures were down $3.20 at $1021.07 in London.
