NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far this morning, Sara Lee (SLE), CIGNA (CI), and
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) lead the list of companies with positive
news, while Kellogg (K), Toyota (TM), and Allergan (AGN) lead the
list of companies with negative news. Visa (V), BP (BP), and AOL
(AOL) were upgraded this morning, while Delta Air Lines (DAL),
Verizon (VZ), and Cree (CREE) received downgrades.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
There is little cheer in overseas trading this morning, as only one
of the 10 foreign indexes that we track is in positive territory.
The cumulative average return on the collective stands at a loss of
0.96%. In Asia, regional markets finished broadly lower, as
traders took their cues from a sluggish session on Wall Street.
European markets followed Asia's lead and headed sharply lower,
with banking stocks leading the way.
Crude futures tipped lower after the Energy Information
Administration reported that crude stockpiles jumped 2.3 million
barrels last week. A strengthening U.S. dollar is also having a
negative impact on crude futures in electronic trading, as the
March contract is down 72 cents at $76.26 per barrel.
PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE)
saw 1,226,287 call contracts traded on Wednesday, compared to
788,278 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call ratio
arrived at 0.64, while the 21-day moving average rose to 0.61.
SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS --------------------------------------
The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood
of $107.90 and resistance around $110.60. For the Nasdaq 100
(QQQQ), support is near $42.60 and resistance is around $44.90.
