NEWS LEADERS AND LAGGARDS-----------------------------------------
So far this morning, Intel (INTC), Amazon.com (AMZN), and Bare
Escentuals (BARE) lead the list of companies with positive news,
while JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Terra Industries (TRA), and Penn
Virginia (PVA) lead the list of companies with negative news. Tyson
Foods (TSN), Lennar (LEN) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) were
upgraded this morning, while Paychex (PAYX), Novo-Nordisk (NVO),
and China Automotive (CAAS) received downgrades.
MARKET OVERVIEW---------------------------------------------------
Overseas trading is headed into the weekend on a sour note, as only
three of the 10 foreign indexes that we track are in positive
territory. The cumulative average return on the collective stands
at a loss of 0.09%. In Asia, the major markets ended mostly higher,
and in Europe the various indexes notched small gains, with broker
upgrades and deal speculation helping media stocks advance.
Crude futures finished in the red for a fourth consecutive session
today, as commodities traders interpreted disappointing employment
and retail reports as a sign of potential weakness in demand. In
addition, black gold continued to retreat in the wake of
yesterday's inventories report, which revealed a larger-than-
anticipated increase in domestic stockpiles.
PUT/CALL RATIO ---------------------------------------------------
Equity option activity on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE)
saw 1,911,347 call contracts traded on Thursday, compared to
1,034,565 put contracts. The resultant single-session put/call
ratio arrived at 0.54, while the 21-day moving average held at
0.58.
SUPPORT & RESISTANCE LEVELS --------------------------------------
The S&P Depository Receipts (SPY) show support in the neighborhood
of $113.20 and resistance around $115.15. For the Nasdaq 100
(QQQQ), support is near $45.50 and resistance is around $46.65.
